Amazon Watch and Ecuadorian land protectors demand an exit of oil and crude from the Amazon Basin!

I created these Instagram cards as a part of AW’s campaign, shining a light on the exploitation of the jungle by narcotraffickers and big business; and the Indigenous activists endangering their own lives to resist them.

Bright yellow is a warning, like the skin of a jungle frog.

Here I make a literal link between my home state’s oil consumption and Ecuador’s exploitation.

To illustrate their importance in the fight to save the rainforest from being carved up by big business and narcotraffickers, I centered our Indigenous activist in the frame.

Using organic green and yellow shapes, I evoked a map of a divided jungle from above and also gold nuggets - drawing parallels to the first extractors of South America, the Spanish conquistadors, who hoped to find a city of gold in the ‘New World.’

This card is meant to look like a quick and dirty polaroid, snapped clandestinely at the scene of the oil company’s crime.

It looks like evidence.
